Modest but Chic: What Should You Wear to a Modest Party?

By styling with layers, you've turned a vintage designer gown into a modest party dress that can pass muster in the most conservative crowds. If the evening seems chilly or you expect inclement weather, add a shrug or shawl in the same material as the dress.
Pair the dress with matching hosiery or nude-colored hose. Your heels should match the dress to carry off an elegant look.

Maybe you have your heart set on wearing a particular dress even if it does not suit the occasion. Try layering it over a sheer bodysuit or under another garment. For instance, wear a sheer bodysuit under a sleeveless or short-sleeved formal dress or layer a sheer skirt over a solid skirt.

In fact, layer tights or a bodysuit under a skirt and top to make a tea-length skirt more suitable for the event. Consider pairing a mid-calf skirt with tights or leggings in winter. You won't show any legs, and you can layer on knee-high boots to finish the outfit.
